Speech and Language Therapist

The speech and language therapist assesses, diagnoses and treats swallowing difficulties and communication difficulties. They also:

  • Will determine what food and drink is safe for you to swallow. She will also provide therapy if your swallow has been affected by stroke.
  • Will evaluate a person’s ability to communicate and interact effectively. Therapy takes many forms, including directly targeting speech and language as well as maximises communication potential through speech, writing, drawing and gesture.
  • Helps the person and their family come to terms with changes in communication.
