Risk Factors

Certain conditions and habits increase the chance of having a stroke; these are called risk factors.

Risk factors can be divided into two categories - those that can be changed and those that can not be changed.

(1) Risk factors that can be changed - either by yourself or with medical help


Blood Pressure


Diabetes


Smoking


Alcohol


Exercise


Obesity


Cholesterol

(2) Risk Factors that cannot be altered


Age


Family History of Stroke


Previous stroke or TIA


Heart Disease


Ethnicity
